Luna had a great time seeing Aunt Heather, Uncle Rey, cousins Carolyn and Rey Jr. and showed off her new "I can stand by myself" skills. We also made a trip up to Heather and Rey's new Chick-Fil-A Restaurant location! Of course I forgot to take a picture but it's the biggest one in the state and was very busy. Luna loved the playground and the Toddler area. I also got to try their new sweet potato waffle french fries, yum!
This past weekend we made a road trip to Oklahoma City to see my grandparents (Luna's great grandparents) and Todd's family. They were having a heat wave, so we mostly stayed indoors but had a great time visiting family. Momo and Popo were so excited to see Luna. And Luna enjoyed playing with them too. She especially loved Momo's paints and easel as she got super creative and painted all over the floor. She was showing us her new art skills she has learned in her Tuesday Science Place class. The only downside to the trip was that Luna was sleeping next to me in the pack and play and woke up in the middle of the night and saw me in my bed. It was all over at that point and wanted me to pick her up. I wish she could still sleep with me in my bed but she thinks it's fun and games and starts laughing, so no big bed for her. After several hours of rocking, nursing and singing to her, she FINALLY fell asleep :( Luna had a great time seeing Aunt Heather, Uncle Rey, cousins Carolyn and Rey Jr. and showed off her new "I can stand by myself" skills. So this week just FLEW by! Maybe because I had a nice Mom Day Out last night at Ozona's with the playgroup mommas, the rest is all a blur. Let's see, on Monday we met some friends at Northpark for Lunch and Baby Bounce. It had been a long time since I had been and was fun to go back now that Luna is more interactive! Luna had her Art Class on Tuesday. Her Coco and Buelo made a surprise visit and I guess I was so surprised, I forgot to snap a picture of them. On Wednesday we met her Aunt Heather and Uncle Rey at Urban Taco for lunch as they were visiting from OK City. Then on Friday we met our playgroup at the Scottish Rite park that has a great playground with a padded surface. So glad we got their early at 9am because it was still hot outside! This weekend we plan on going up to OK City to see Luna's great grandparents and Aunt, Uncle and cousins :)
Friday started off great with a pancake and pajama party with our playgroup at little Caroline's house. Jenni was nice enough to host and we all showed up in our PJ's and had lots of yummy food. Cheese grits, egg casserole, fruit, muesli, mimosas, coffee, donuts, hashbrowns and of course pancakes! Next on our list for weekend fun was going over to Aunt E's pool to swim. Cousin Meghan came over too. Luna loved floating in the salt water pool. (Oh and her friend Jack traded floats with us, poor thing had a pink one so we gave him our blue one) Sunday was Father's Day and we celebrated by going to Todd's favorite breakfast place, Buzzbrews! We love their coffee and the free refills of serve-it-yourself style. I ordered their yummy banana nut pancakes and Todd got their Amigas. Luna enjoyed her eggs and avocados. Oh and I have to show you the cutest Piggy and Paws artwork Luna did. We ordered this back in April for her birthday at a play group and it finally came in. They painted her foot and took her foot print to make a cool print with the Eiffel Tower theme for her nursery. Yesterday afternoon, it was soo hot, around 105 degrees, so Luna stripped down to her diaper and had a field day playing with the DVD cases. She would play with these all day if I let her!
Luna's grandfather came to Dallas on Wednesday to say hi and visit. He also went to her swim lesson to check out her awesome swim skills!
Luna had her first art lesson yesterday at the Science Place at Fair Park. They have a program called Little Explorers and the art class starts at age 6 months up to 2 years. When we got there, Luna put on a smock and her teacher explained the lesson of the day about Paul Cezanne and his fruits and pitchers themes. There were several stations set up and we started with the sponge painting, then moved to the apple stamps and then over to the easel to finish her work. I wasn't sure if she would get 'it' but she totally did and started using the paintbrush on the paper! We then moved over to the finger painting station. Luna started working on her canvas artwork. She really wanted to eat the paint, thank goodness it's non-toxic. She is so proud of her masterpiece! Cezanne would be proud!
Since I am the new babes/toddler play group activity coordinator for my LH group, I am having fun coming up with new things for us to do. So on Friday I booked a special story time for us at Launa's Library. It's the cutest little library upstairs in a retired librarian's (Mrs. K.) home in Lake Highlands. The library is just precious and the kids get their own library card and can check out books. The babes had such a great time hearing the stories and looking at all of the books! Luna loved the choo-choo story the best. Anything with sound effects! Luna escaping during story time
Sunday morning we met Bao, Tinsley, Thomas and Uncle John at Good 2 Go Taco's for breakfast. Uncle John lives in Austin and came up to visit. We almost moved 1 street over from him when I was 8 months pregnant. He was so upset when we didn't move as he was looking forward to being her babysitter. And the last time Luna saw him was during TX OU weekend, so it had been awhile. She loved the eggs and potatoes and yummy tortillas.
I hosted our PTA play group at our house on Monday and had a great time! I got out all of Luna's indestructible toys and the hit was the Little Tikes coupe. They all wanted a piece of it, it was hilarious. But they all learned to take turns and share the road! Poor Luna also had a little fever on Monday, but the nurses swear it is teething, so the poor thing has been cranky and not sleeping well. I think her molars are coming in :( That night I met my friend Maria out for a birthday celebration at Javiers. She was in town visiting from San Fran and we were so happy she stuck around so we could celebrate her birthday. Of course I go there late after Todd got home and Luna was already asleep. Now that we are parents, we just can't get out as much as we used to. Luna started her first swim lessons at the Y on Monday!! She really loves the water and enjoys learning to splash, blow bubbles and getting used to being in the water. She was a little scared of the kicking pole but she eventually got used to it. Todd was able to meet us on Wednesday and Luna loved having him there to watch her learn to swim. He even got in the water at the end of class to get a little Daddy and Me time.
Luna has no idea that she was a little bean in her mommy's tummy for a long time while we looked for homes in the Austin area last year. We looked and looked and looked for something and by 7 months preggers, we had to call it quits. Apparently everyone else has the same idea about living in Austin. Gee I wonder why? The gorgeous lakes, rivers and hills and the laid back feel. No pretentiousness, tons of walkers, bikers and no every other car being 50-100K or more like here in Dallas. So when Todd learned he had 6 days off and could take it now or in a month, he took it asap and headed back for a visit. We were so glad to hear we had points at Hyatt hotels and quickly booked a room at the Hill Country Hyatt. We had not been back to Austin since I was 7 months pregnant and decided we needed a relaxing vacation and this was perfect. We took the back way into San Antonio off 281 through the hills and were greeted so nicely when we arrived at the hotel. Everyone there was so friendly, and lots of families. We had a great room, nice view and loved the relaxing feel of the place. They have several pools, a baby pool, an adult only pool, and a man made beach that feeds into their Lazy River. They also have a pool restaurant and pool side service. Pina Colada? Don't mind if I do. We started off Luna in her floaty boat thing with a canopy and got her in the river (it's chlorinated) and she LOVED it! She smiled the entire time, giggled and loved looking at everything and everyone that swam by us. It's not too fast and about 2 feet deep so we could walk with her the entire loop. She also loved swimming with us in the pool and thought it was just a big awesome bathtub! We had a great hotel room and were able to put her pack in play in the large sliding door closet so she could take her naps peacefully while we watched TV and hung out on the patio. I know it sounds crazy but the closet idea is perfect. She slept so well and went down easily. We took our umbrella stroller so it was easy to get around the property and she loved looking at everything around her. At night she enjoyed the camp fires and s'mores! Yum. We also walked the nature trails and found a cottontail bunny on one and Luna squealed with delight! We also lucked out in that our room had a leak in it so they moved us to the Concierge floor and we had concierge service with free breakfast, snacks all day long, happy hour and late night desserts! We will definitely be going back here one day. Especially since Sea World is across the highway and can't wait for Luna to enjoy it when she is older. I am posting a few of my favorite shots and then will put the rest in a photo gallery, too many cute ones not to post them all! Getting ready for the pool!
