Luna and I headed to the park with our Lake Highlands mom friends and kids: Jack, Ella Grace, Alex and Baby Tinsley with her big sister Ava.
This past week, we had amazingly mild weather for January in Dallas. 70 degrees for the past few days has been so nice. We know it won't last long but we definitely took advantage of it. Luna and I headed to the park with our Lake Highlands mom friends and kids: Jack, Ella Grace, Alex and Baby Tinsley with her big sister Ava. Todd and I headed to the Arboretum on Saturday for a nice little picnic by the water. It was perfect weather and Luna loved looking around at the park and at White Rock Lake! Luna is also on her way to crawling! She's been very active in her rolling from back to tummy and tummy to back and now that she can lunge forward, I can't leave her alone for long! She is wanting to crawl like nothing else. Tomorrow Todd and I are heading to the store to get the baby proofing gear!

Todd was off work today and had a great time with Luna and I at the park. The weather was nice for a January day! Chica was so overjoyed to have soo much space to run around at the park and catch the ball. Luna then kicked back and played around on the computer for awhile. She LOVES her daddy's laptop, iPhone and all remote controls. And when we have to take them away from her, she is NOT happy! For dinner we all headed out to the new pizza place, Pizza Venti! It's pizza by the slice and although poor Luna is still on baby food, she had some delicious pureed broccoli! She was so tired from her busy day and went to bed at 7pm.
This weekend started off uneventful. A trip to Babies R Us to get some much needed foam mats for Luna- since she has been itching to start crawling. A trip to the newest restaurant in our area- Crossroads Diner- yum! I swear everything there is homemade- and the table next to us got a sticky bun that I was eyeing, and can't wait to try next time!
Saturday night was low-key, just hanging with Luna. But then Sunday, as Luna was napping and I was sanding a table to re-paint, my mom called me to say my grandmother was not doing well. She had a mini stroke on Friday that apparently was nothing, but on Sunday, her speech had started to slur and she was not making any sense on the phone. My mother and I decided to drive up to Oklahoma City for a few days and then my sister heard the news and decided to ride with us as well. So glad she came so she could drive, as I am still sleep deprived and not a good idea for me to be driving :) So I quickly packed everything up in a hurry! It is very different with an infant and all the things you have to pack for just 1-2 nights! When we arrived at the hospital, she was getting into her new room at the Heart Hospital of Mercy. My Uncle Bud and Aunt Lisa were there as well and my grandmother, Momo, was so happy to see Luna! It really brightened her day to see her great-grandchild! My mom stayed the night so Erika and I headed to Aunt Heather's house to see Rey and the kids for a quick visit. Then we went back to Momo and Popo's house for the night. Monday Momo was doing better, nothing showed on the Sonogram or the CT Scan so we were happy about that. They just wanted to keep her for observations today and she is getting discharged back home! Yay! My mother is staying for the week to make sure she is okay at home with my grandfather. Sorry for the lack of pictures. The iPhone was my camera for the weekend :) My grandmother was also not happy to not have on her make-up and lipstick in the hospital, and might be a little mad I am posting these pictures, but they are very sweet ones of her and Luna! We are wishing Momo a full recovery and can't wait to So in case you have not heard, I have this other blog I am working on: thecounselormom.com and it has taken up a lot of my time but still, no excuse for me lagging behind on poor little Luna's blog! So let me summarize her week. On Monday, my friend Sabrina was in town visiting and came over to see little Luna! She has been living in DC and was stationed at the White House. Luna is wearing an adorable White House onesie that she brought her. Her grandfather (Abuelo Richard) came through town on Monday and Tuesday as well and stopped by for a visit to see little Lu! She was very happy to see him! Luna had her weekly playgroup with the Lake Highlands babies at Heather and Jack's house. The funniest part was when I turned around and her friend Alejandro was sitting in front of her, choo-choo style, and both of them just playing along. We also had our first fire of the Winter in our fireplace! It was soo cold that night, around 20 degrees. We roasted marshmallows and had smores. The photos did not turn out as well with the flash, but it was a big fire! Luna had her first berry this week- blueberries! She had them for breakfast and loved them! Poor thing, she had just woken up and was not in the mood to have her picture taken :) She ended the week with a playdate at her friend Tinsley's house on Friday but we forgot to take a picture. Next time!
My good friend Carmen is expecting her little Mila on March 4th!! We are all so excited, so much that 11 of us threw her a baby shower this weekend. It was so much fun and little Luna got to be a part of it all. Some of her friends from Austin came in town, and our good friend JT, all the way from NYC! We then met for lunch the next day at Urban Taco before he headed back to Austin with his sister Lauren and her cute daughter Lola. Luna loves her baths!! She is still sitting in her whale tub to support herself and loves all of her bath toys.
I can not believe that my daughter is 8 months old!! I know, I say it every month that she keeps growing so fast, but it is unbelievable! 8 Months! Here is a day in the life of Luna at 8 Months:
-She is still breastfeeding and eats about 4 times a day and about 2-3 times after she goes to sleep at night -Sleep is still a challenge, usually takes 2-3 naps a day and if she takes 3, will go to bed at night around 7-8pm and wake up at 7-8pm and if she takes 2 naps, goes to bed around 6:30pm. She starts off sleeping well and then after 5 hours, will wake for a feeding around 11:30pm or so, and will wake again around 1:30am and then again around 3/4am. At this point, I am super tired and bring her into my bed to breastfeed and she usually stays asleep next to me until morning. Still working on getting her to stay in her crib the whole night but the sleep deprivation takes over me and it is much easier to have her sleep next to me than fight rocking her back to bed in her crib at 3am! -She is eating solids well, favors spinach, butternut squash and sweet potatoes. We are going to try chicken this month and egg yolks for protein -She is about 17-18 pounds we figured after we weighed her on our scale. At 6 months she was 16 pounds. -She still wears size 6-9 months clothes -She loves to play on her playmat with her new toys from Christmas. She also still gets in her exersaucer and Johnny Jump Up at times when she gets bored playing on the floor -I still try to read her stories each day and before bed, but she still prefers to eat them than listen to them! -As far as motor skills, she is not crawling yet (which I am not complaining about!) but she enjoys tummy time more and scoots and rocks forward at times and tries to reach for me by holding out her hands. -She is now rolling over more from back to front but still not yet from front to back. I guess she will master this when she starts to crawl. -She is babbling more and more now than ever and was doing a lot of 'La La, Ma Ma's' but the past few days is doing Ba Ba' sounds. It's funny, people will call me and ask who is talking in the background and I say, "It's Luna!" -She loves bath time and hates it when it's time to let the water out of the tub! -She loves singing songs and her favorite is "Patty Cake." She is excited that we signed up for a Kindermusik class this Spring- it will be a fun mommy and me experience! -She still loves 'tags' and any toy with a tag on it! She has a few 'taggie' brand toys that she loves! -She has a little separation anxiety that is common now, and it even peaks around age 12 months, so we'll see how it goes. She doesn't like it when there are other people around and I leave the room but if we are alone, she does better. -We had her 6 month pictures on the 12th (well, they were her 'sitting up' pictures) and we can't wait to see how they turned out! They should be back in a week or so. -I am amazed at how far she has come in 8 whole months and I am enjoying staying home with her every day!! I am one lucky mom! Luna spent the day indoors today with the first snowfall. It was a 'spend the day in my PJ's' kind of day for sure. She loved watching the snow fall down outside the window. She also enjoyed spending time in her Johnny Jump and I just added the floor mat that came with it. You can jump on it and it plays different sounds. She loved it! Luna had a great week with us! Just lacking in the photo department, oops! On Monday, Aunt E babysat so I could go to my hip hop class and Luna enjoyed time with her Aunt. On Tuesday, Luna and I met her playmates, Clay and Jack at this awesome indoor playground at Fellowship Church. You don't have to be a member, and is open to the public. A great place to go in this winter weather. Grandma Cocoa and Abuelo Raul babysat Tuesday too so Todd and I could have a date night. Todd's first real movie since Luna was born! We saw True Grit at the Magnolia and ate at Fish Sushi House in the West Village. Luna had fun with her grandparents but apparently had a tough time staying asleep and was not able to calm down. Maybe some separation anxiety is setting in early?? Wednesday we had a nice relaxing day as Todd was off work, and spent some good quality time with Luna. Thursday we drove up to see a possible new pediatrician, Dr. Bain, up in Frisco because of her alternative medicine approaches. Still not sure if we will switch as the drive is ridiculous, but we're considering it! Our doctor is good but is so busy and gives us quick answers- we really want someone to spend a lot of time with us and understand Luna and not just give us generic answers- especially when it comes to her sleep since she still does not sleep through the night and don't like her advice of letting her cry it out. She is not a baby that is going to calm herself down like that, it makes it worse for her! On Friday we met the LH Playgroup girls at Northpark Mall. We had lunch in the food court- Jack, Alex, Tesa and Addison all got to hang out together. We were going to head to the Baby Bounce class that we've been to before, but check out the strollers parked out front- I took the pic kind of far away but those are strollers lined up and down and the woman there is guarding them! I have never seen that many in my life! I swear there were about 50 strollers lined up. Popular class! Saturday, I was able to go to a much needed workout at the gym while Todd watched Luna- check out the crazy crowded weight lifting class! I guess it's that time of year again where the gyms get swamped. I'm sure these ladies will love the fact that I took a unknown quick picture of the class- I just had to as I had never seen it that crowded before.
Luna's grandmother's name is still up in the air, as you can see on this post's title. Any recommendations?
We made a trip up to see her today for a little visit to Plano. She had a great time posing for pictures in her little tutu outfit- it's a 3 month old size but we wanted to take 1 more before she grew out of it! |
