8 Months!

I can't believe I am about 8 months along now!  Time has really flown by so fast! I was very excited to have 2 baby showers to attend for baby Hartgrove and knew that a dress shopping trip was in order.  I  have been really reluctant to purchase any maternity clothes and have been wearing sweatpants since I work from home daily and able to get away with it and have bought just a few long t-shirts and 1 pair of Gap maternity jeans. I had a great time shopping for my first nice maternity dress for the baby showers but I then convinced myself I could find a normal dress and buy it large and then after the baby came I could alter it.  Why spend money on a dress you might wear 1-2 times, right? It was pretty funny trying on normal clothes after having gained 23 pounds and it sure makes your bump noticeable!  I think one of the sales clerks was not happy with me stretching out her dresses as she kept giving me an evil eye.  After 4 or 5 stores, I finally found one that would work!

I was so lucky to have 2 fabulous baby showers with family and friends, and had a great time and received the cutest baby things!    The hostesses were amazing and did such a great job. I was very lucky to have my sister in law, Heather come down from Oklahoma and my 'bonus' sister Mimi came all the way from Maine to help host one of the showers, as well as my Step mother Sherry who drove down from Houston for the day to attend one!
I can't wait to start decorating the baby nursery in our new home next week with all the goodies for our baby girl!  Thanks to everyone that was able to make it, I had so much fun!

As far as our baby development, so far we are on track and no problems.  Just a few side effects for the pregnant mom such as acid reflux, back aches, a nose bleed, and some problems sleeping but nothing major.  I also am slightly anemic and have to take iron pills.  The baby is close to 4 pounds now and I feel her moving all the time, and now feels more like a pushing feeling as she gets comfortable!

We took our 3rd birthing class on Tuesday and are really enjoying them! This last class focused on baby care and breast feeding and we really learned a lot.  We heard the bad news though, that the first 3 weeks I am going to have to breast feed alone and not pump so our baby learns to take to the breast and not have bottle confusion.  So Todd won't be able to bottle feed so soon, but hopefully will after that so he can help with the night feedings :)  It's nice to be around a bunch of other girls in the class going through the same thing as some are delivering at our birth center and some will be in area hospitals.  I know most people think we are crazy for doing to 'au natural' but we are learning all these techniques to really help us relax, and all these exercises to do at home to get the baby to turn posterior (head facing our spines) for a faster birth.  They also say having an epidural makes for a longer labor because you don't feel as much to be able to push, so not having one should also speed up the process and hey, whatever it takes to get her out faster is fine with me! :)  Next Saturday we have the birthing center class on how to prepare for the labor at the center, what to bring, what will happen, who will be there etc so we are excited to be counting down the days!

30 Weeks

We made it to the 30 week mark!  At this stage our baby is about 3 pounds and I can feel her kicking more on the right side of my stomach, so our midwife thinks she is turning hopefully.  Our glucose results came back and we are in the clear, and doing well with the weight gain.  The only problem is that my iron is a little low so I am now taking supplements, which is not surprising considering I haven't eaten red meat or pork in 17 years.  Apparently as you grow in pregnancy, more and more blood is needed to support the growth and many women can become anemic or have low iron.
Other than that, things are good, still have back pain and having to work on taking a lot of breaks as sitting up has become painful for long periods.

Todd and I started our first birthing class on the 2nd! It is taught by a well recommended instructor, Linda Worzer and we were even recommended to see her by the birthing center in Austin we had looked at!  So we knew we were in good hands when we signed up.  The method we are learning is called the Bradley Method for women who are going the natural childbirth course.  It teaches relaxation methods that are very different from the Lamaze classes we have seen in the movies, so we are excited to see how it goes. Todd was very happy to learn that our homework for the week was for him to get a 30 minute massage by the spouse daily, and is for them to learn how effective relaxation is for us women in labor- and for them to have a break as they have been stressed about becoming new dads as well :)  We will also be learning about breastfeeding and all the other stuff that we need to learn in the next 10 weeks!

I forgot to mention in the last entry that the first outfit I have bought for our baby girl, happens to be a cute swimsuit cover up by Juicy and was able to get this for 75% off!  My mother and sister convinced me to buy it as she will be going to our timeshare in Florida in the Fall and will need a stylish outfit (at a whole 5 months old :)
