We are now starting to look at names and not sure at all what that will be. I have gotten so used to having an uncommon name that I think that will be the direction we will go. But we promise no Apples, Coco's or Zinnias! Our next check-up will be on the 6th of January.
We had our 4.5 month sonogram today, so I am about 18.5 to 19 weeks along now. Aannnddd, the main reason we went to get this was to find out the baby's sex! We were referred to Dr. Graham, MD's office, who works closely with the birthing center and the sonogram nurse told us she never tells the sex of the baby until at least 18 weeks along. Apparently the sex organs are not developed until around then and hard to tell for sure. So, she measured the baby and we saw all the measurements she took and then all of a sudden told us we were having a girl!! I asked her if she was sure, and was still in shock and still didn't feel real and she told us, she would not tell us it was a girl unless she was sure! She has learned to be as accurate as possible in telling couples the news to avoid any miscalculations of room colors, and name choices! We were so excited as I have always wanted a girl, of course would have loved to have a boy as a big brother but am so happy we are having a baby girl!

We decided to take a Babymoon and go on one last trip before our baby comes in May! Can't really travel starting in February, and since we had been planning to go to NYC forever, we finally decided to just do it! We were able to fly in style first class using miles, the only way to do it!! Our first night, we stayed with Kevin (Todd's friend from high school and college) and his wife Jenny's place down in the financial district. I have to say it was the biggest and nicest NY apartment I have seen complete with a bedroom door, and a walk in closet and a kitchen that has appliances and real counter space! We then saw Twisted Sister at the NY Stock Exchange Xmas Tree lighting, minus Dee Snyder which was hilarious and then met my friend JT for dinner at the best pizza ever, Totonno's! Of course I love real cheese and thin pizza, not your typical John's pizza, but way better :) We were able again to make the most of our trip and used points to stay at the Westin Times Square and had an awesome view on the 38th floor! We met my friend Annette (from my old Club Med days) for lunch and then did the 5th Avenue trek to see all the stores decorated for the Holidays, Saks, Bendel's, Bergdorf Goodman's, Tiffany's, Ann Taylor, H & M, the Plaza and St Pat's Cathedral. Of course, had to stop off at Magnolia Cupcakes for a snack, and then met my sister and Nicole at the NBC Studio for a tour. We were able to go to the set of SNL and see the cast rehearsing with their guest that wek, Taylor Lautner (Jacob from the movie Twilight)! Unfortunately, no pics allowed. Then, on the way out we saw all these teen girls lined up outside the doors to see Jacob, waiting for the 7am tickets to be handed out the next day, but they only maybe give 1-5 if that. Sorry, no one is worth sleeping in the 20 degree temperatures just to maybe see on a stage!!! Then we made it out to meet Kevin, Jenny, Chris (the boys' friend from high school) and my friend Josephine (from my Club Med day at Cuba in West Village area. It was awesome food, just super crowded as everyone else was out for a good time, including the drunk girls next to us who shared their lovely bedside stories with the whole room! Then we were adventurous and made it out back in the cold to a wine bar to end the night. The next day we treked down to Chinatown, had some awesome dumplings at the dumpling house, then bargained with the vendors in Chinatown. I was able to get a watch talked down from 25 to 15$ but no such luck with the Hermes purse, even Kevin, the King of dealing, was not able to talk it down, so I ended up with a fake Louis Vuitton, couldn't leave Chinatown without a fake purse! We then went down to Soho and of course ended up at a cupcake shop, Crumbs where I had the biggest cupcake ever, a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup cupcake, and yes, the majority of our trip was based on sweets and food! Then it was on to the next sweet shop, Serendipity, for a frozen hot chocolate for a 4 hour wait. I have tried to get in there 5- 6 times before and never able to wait, so I was determined this trip and had a plan to put our name on the list and go and shop at Bloomies and Barney's. There were so many people out shopping and then we saw a huge fighting crowd at the Ugg Department at Bloomies, and when asked what the sale was about, the clerk replied, 'there is no sale, regular price!' These New Yorkers sure know how to shop, 500$ purses and shoes were just stocking stuffers! So we finally made it into Serendipity and it was well worth the 4 hour wait! The frozen hot chocolate was amazing. We also saw some great role model parents, who had only been waiting for 30 minutes and told their 4 kids to lie and tell the host they were the 'Lucy' party that had apparently not returned- then they sat down right next to us. We were just waiting for the real Lucy party to show up! Then we rushed out and made it in time for dinner at Almond, a place Erika had picked out in the Flat Iron district and Kevin and Jenny were able to meet us. The food was amazing, fish, gnocci, monsieur's and short ribs and of course the best was the last, cream brulee and pear cake. I think my glucose level was over the limit at this point after today! We then had to leave the next day, had a good NY diner breakfast and made it back home to Big D. We had such a great time in the city and I am already ready to go back next year! Today was our week 17 appointment at the birthing center! So far we are right on track, no concerns. She said I am gaining weight at a normal weight, 9 pounds so far but wants to wait to do a sonogram to determine the gender until next week when I am a little further along. She said some women go at 16 weeks and they usually can't tell and instead of sending me to get the sonogram and then wasting time and having to go back a few weeks later, it is best to wait to week 18 or 19. My next appointment then is on Monday December 14th when I'll be a little over 18 weeks then, to find out the sex, and then we can all start buying blue or pink! Not that I am into gender stereotyping or anything :) Here are a few pics of the birthing center. You can see in the background that Baylor Hospital is right behind it. This is the main birthing room. You can see the awesome 4 post bed and then the huge armoire is the baby monitoring system, it is hard to imagine but inside the armoire is a full infant medical work station, it has a ton of stuff in it for the aspiration issues, meconium, weight station and all other stuff they have to sometimes take care of after the baby is born. The door behind it that you can kind of see is the huge bathroom and the jacuzzi tub during labor to help with the pain. |
