It was Luna's first time to sit on Santa's lap at Northpark. Over the years I have loved going to Northpark during Christmas and walking around seeing all the sights and kids. I used to spend my Christmas days there as a kid as well and remember a lot of the same decorations and activities they still have, like the Scrooge Christmas puppets. So, I was super excited to FINALLY take little Luna there.
We heard that to get 'in line' you need to get there at 9am, get a ticket and then come back when he starts at 11am! What? That is not how we did things a child with Santa, but oh well. Oh, and in case some of you don't know, Northpark is the creme de la creme of shopping in Dallas- Neiman's, Barney's New York, Gucci, Henry Bendel's, etc. and their Santa is a real Santa with a real beard and all. He is a famous one, kind of a snob but hey, it's Northpark. So Todd went up there early while I was at a preschool open house (tell ya about that one later- 2 openings for NEXT Fall Mother's day out, yeah, not going to happen). Todd got #14 in line. So we go back at 11:30am, and we had to wait about 15 minutes in line, but the lady behind us just got her ticket and they told her to come back at 4pm and it's only December 7th! We get all excited and finally it's Luna's turn. I feel like we are at Disneyland or something waiting in these lines. We go up there and put her on his lap and she immediately stares at him and WALES so loud and had this petrified look on her face. So he suggested I sit on the side of his chair with her- well, I wish I'd known and worn some makeup! Those were not good pics, so I put her back on his lap and start singing and jumping up and down like an idiot, so she manages a smile or two and then cries again. And they have this distorted Elmo that is missing an arm, and the photographer was waving it at her, and I was like 'are you trying to scare her with that thing or what?' At this point the Santa goes, 'ok, you can take her now, I think she's had enough' and off she goes. He was not the friendliest Santa and was a Northpark Snob santa if you ask me, no smile, nothing! Thankfully since this did not go so well, we did not put her in her special Christmas dress that Grandpa David and Sherry bought her, because it has to be dry cleaned only and didn't want to ruin it before the big day. Luna had a HUGE packed weekend and loved every minute of it. On Friday we spent the day with her Daddy who was off for the day and then Luna and I went to the Lake Highlands Early Childhood PTA Christmas Party that afternoon. She met her friends Jack and Addison there and also Santa! I placed her on his lap and she cried but then warmed up to him. He had a real beard and everything! We tried to get a picture of all 3 of the babes, but getting 3 babies 12 months and under to sit still at once, not going to happen. We were so lucky that my mom and Raul were able to come over to babysit Luna Friday night, so Todd and I could have a date night. We have only gone out to eat on a date alone twice since Luna was born, so we definitely needed a night out alone without a baby, a 6pm dinner and not having to hold a crying baby while I eat! We went downtown to Kenichi for some sushi and then stopped by our friend Brad's house for his birthday celebration. We were home by 10pm, late I know! But now that we have to get up early with Luna, gone are the late nights. Saturday Todd had to work, so Luna and I got ready for her friend Jack's 1st birthday party. It was Luna's first birthday party to attend, and she loved it- all the kids, toys and excitement and it was a fun Circus theme. She has no idea how many years of fun times ahead she will have at all the future parties she will get to go to and have herself. I remember all the fun parties I went to as a kid and of course loved my own birthdays, it was like Disneyland! She had fun playing with Jack, and her playgroup friends Addison, Ella Grace and Alex. I love the pic of Luna caressing Jack's hair- all the ladies love his irresistible head of hair. He was such the star when we sang happy birthday, he was surrounded by a lot of people all waiting to see him dive into his cake- he loved the icing for sure! Luna started having a meltdown at the end of his party as it was time for her nap. She got the cutest Giraffe ornament party favor and a box of Animal Crackers on our way out the door. Next on our list that day was Ashley (Diana V.'s daughter)'s baby shower up in Plano. So Luna took a nice nap in the car as we headed up to her shower. Diana outdid herself and had the whole house decorated like Candy Land! I had not been to a baby shower in awhile and it brought back memories of mine. I can't believe Luna's shower was only like 9 months ago, seems like forever! The rest of the weekend was spent cleaning and baking for me and my sister's Ornament Xmas Party on Sunday. We had about 21 girls total and had a blast with exchanging the ornaments Chinese gift style with lots of stealing involved! We served champagne and desserts, and the guests brought appetizers and we had a full table of goodies- but I forgot to snap a picture of the table full of food, only a 'before'! Luna loved all of the people and especially all of the attention! She was all dolled up in an outfit her grandma Cocoa (still working on her name) bought her, a cute little shirt with ornaments on it and polka dotted stockings, too cute! It was also so cute to see Luna react to Michelle's 4 week old baby Quinn at the party. Luna had never met a newborn and it was like she had no idea what the heck it was, she just stared at her.
So Luna has been sitting up assisted with us for a couple of weeks now, but today she had a great session of sitting up on her own without falling over! She can last about 5 minutes or so now on her own and is not liking being flat on her back anymore, now that she can see the world, she prefers sitting up! I have no idea how this thing got roated but it is not wanting to go back to the original, oh well. |
